The story not only tells about art but also romance between Balinese woman and a man from Europe. In the early 1930s, a Belgian painter and a woman from Kelandis, Denpasar, once lived in Sanur. They were Jean Adrien "Le Mayeur" de Merpres and Ni Pollok. In 1933, the house was built using bamboo materials and 'alang-alang' roof.
