Welcoming the ASEAN Para Games, Bali province had prepared 8 of 10 athletes of disabled children after they were trained during Pelatnas. The athletes are to be sent in ASEAN Para ames in Solo, Cetral Java, December 15-20, 2011.
"The disabled athletes from our province will fight in the upcoming international championship are expected to achieve gold medal in every sport events", said Head of National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Bali, I Gede Nyoman Sumitha, in Denpasar.
It is also hoped that the pride of disabled people will raised through the sport festival, he added. "They have the same rights as any other citizen. For that reason, we have to accommodate their rights", he said.
Sumita also explained that the athletes called in for Pelatnas were 10 people. However after the training, only 8 of them are qualified for the ASEAN Para Games 2011.
For information, ASEAN Para Games is a multi-sport championship event, held once in two years. The event is only for athletes with physical disabilities, which participants come from 11 countries in South-East Asia. Participants are athletes with disabilities, including persons with mobility disabilities, visual disabilities, amputees and those with cerebral palsy.
Last month, chief of each delegations from the 11 countries partcipating in the ASEAN Para Games VI held a conference in November 4, 2011, at Hotel Sunan, Solo. The conference entitled Chef De Miision (CDM) ASEAN Para games VI was also attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Andi Mallarangeng, President of KONI Rita Subowo, governor of Central Java Bibit Waluyo, Mayor of Solo Joko Widodo, and President Asean Paragames Sport Federation, Dato Zainal Abu Zairin.
The venues for ASEAN Para Games VI are mostly located in Manahan sport complex, Solo, such as for athletics, swimming, and volley. Meanwhile the other sports are to be held in separated places such as Sritex sport building for badminton, Sriwedari for archery, Gedung Wanita for weight lifting, Pendopo Balaikota for chess, Diamond CC (table tennis), Bengawan Sport (Ten Pin Bowling, and Nyi Ageng Arang stadium for goal ball.
